Department of Maternal and Reproductive Health, SGPGI, in Short

If you have ever waited a full day for a gynecology appointment, you will recognise the crowd here. Patients from across the region come to this department in Lucknow, at SGPGI, for care related to pregnancy and women's reproductive health. It is a government institute, and that shapes the feel of the place: busy, large, and built around a lot of patients moving through the same corridors.

The department focuses on maternal health and the reproductive concerns that come with it. Reviewers describe it as a place that handles unusual and complicated cases, which is part of why people travel to it. Only women can go inside the department, and patients are not allowed to bring an attendant with them into the clinic areas.

What People Say After a Visit

The points that come up most are the doctors and the range of facilities. Visitors say the doctors are well qualified and professional, and that the department has most of the equipment needed for diagnosis and treatment under one roof. The other thing people bring up is cost: treatment here is more affordable than at private hospitals, which many find a fair trade for the waiting.

Good to Know

Plan for a long day. The outpatient area fills up early, and patients often spend hours there before being seen, so bring something to pass the time, water, and any food you may need. Do not assume you will be seen on the same day you arrive, since some patients have been asked to come back on a later date.

Preparing for a Visit

Bring your previous reports and prescriptions so the doctor can see your history at once.

There is no regard for what condition youre in. Even ifnyou are a doctor yourself you will be treated like a cattle and made to wait for hours and hours. No guarantee if you'll be consulting same day. Very easy for them to call you after days also irrespective if you've come…

The management is pathetic. Pregnant women waiting for hours with no knowledge of how long it might take and no regard for their time and money. It's a shame that a hospital of this level doesn't have a simple token system for patient management.
